BRISIN begins public awareness in FCT

By | BRISIN News | 32 Comments

Basic Registry and Information System of Nigeria (BRISIN) says it has commenced public awareness creation on the first phase of its programme in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Dr Anthony Uwa, the Head of BRISIN, made this known at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja.

BRISIN, an integrated system for the collection, storage and distribution of information to support the management of the country’s economy, was conceived during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s regime.

Uwa said that though the technical committee for implementation of the programme was inaugurated by former President, Goodluck Jonathan, actual implementation is now being undertaken by the Buhari administration.

He said BRISIN had conducted digital mapping of FCT wards, people living in the city and their culture, among others.

“We have done a digital mapping of Nigeria but FCT mostly; we know where the wards are, the people that are living in the city and their culture.

“What we need now is to start the system data collection, distribution and to have the infrastructure in place.

“BRISIN has come to stay in Nigeria and it will work, notwithstanding doubts expressed in some quarters, because the Federal government is taking a stand to ensure its success,” he said.

According to Uwa, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is planning a sensitisation meeting on BRISIN for all foreign missions in Nigeria and international organisations to aid understanding of the programme.

He said the technical committee coordinating the project was putting measures in place to address issues of bureaucracy to ensure speedy implementation in Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

BRISIN implementation: FG opens portal for recruitment

By | BRISIN News | 12 Comments

The Federal Government has announced the opening of the recruitment portal for the implementation of the Basic Registry and Information System in Nigeria (BRISIN) scheme in the country.

Dr Anthony Uwa, the Head of BRISIN implementation in Nigeria, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

NAN reports that BRISIN is an integrated system for the collection, storage and distribution of information to support the management of the economy.

The Agency also reports that the Federal Government plans to recruit 5000 unemployed Nigerians in the FCT in the pilot phase to drive the implementation of the scheme.

According to Uwa, “the registration into the 5,000 recruitment for BRISINS implementation is now open online.

“Applicants can access the form and register only from www.brisin.ng;  applicants that go through other means are at their own risk.”

According to Uwa, the BRISIN recruitment is not restricted as it cuts across all cadres, from school certificate to PHD holders.

He said it was not also restricted to certain class of persons as speculated by some online media platforms, while urging people with disabilities to apply.

He said candidates qualified to apply were those between the ages of 18-55 years, and that those with knowledge of ICT had added advantage.

“Please note that BRISIN is the best instrument for monitoring and control in all aspects of the economy.

“It has no political party, no colour, no ethnic group, no tribe and no religion; it is for the benefit of every Nigerian.

“BRISIN is a SYSTEM not a Ministry, Department or Agency, but an instrument of self-discipline that will assist Nigeria to the highest height.

“FCT is the capital of Nigeria with 62 wards, six area councils and one central admin head.

“So the 5000 people that will be recruited would serve at the ward, area council and Central Area.

“They will ensure that grassroot data and information are gotten and distributed for use by every MDA according to their interest to better manage their sectors.

“This pilot phase in the FCT will enable Nigerians to understand fully the enormous benefit of BRISIN to the development of the country,” Uwa said. (NAN)

BRISIN pledges transparency in ongoing recruitment

By | BRISIN News | 39 Comments

The Basic Registry and Information System of Nigeria (BRISIN)
has assured Nigerians of transparency in the recruitment of personnel needed for the implementation of the programme.

The Coordinator of the programme, Dr Anthony Uwa at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja, said the programme planned to recruit 5,000 unemployed Nigerians in the pilot phase in the Federal Capital Territory.

According to Uwa, there will be no favoritism in the recruitment process as everything will be
done based on merit.

“The BRISIN recruitment is not like any other recruitment. It is very transparent; if you are qualified you will be automatically taken and once the list comes out, you will go for interview.

“About 200 people will go to Italy for training and will come back to train some people here in Nigeria, so we don’t short-change anybody.

“If you are qualified, you apply. You don’t need to know anybody to apply to become a BRISIN staff because we want the system that is hitherto sleeping to be awake.

“If you start by saying you got a letter from a senator, it will not work; we want people on ground to really do the job and to really know the importance of the job.’’

Uwa urged Nigerians seeking employment in the system to beware of fraudsters, stressing that BRISIN did not engage any consultant to handle the employment.

He said that prospective applicants could register via the BRISIN portal (www.brisin.ng).

FG Sets To Recruit 5,000 Unemployed Nigerians For BRISIN Implementation

By | BRISIN News | 23 Comments
The Federal Government has disclosed plans to recruit 5,000 unemployed Nigerians in the Federal Capital Territory under the Basic Registry and Information System in Nigeria scheme.
Dr. Anthony Uwa, the Head of BRISIN implementation in Nigeria, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Abuja that more Nigerians would be recruited after the pilot phase.
NAN reports that BRISIN is an integrated system for the collection, storage and distribution of information to support the management of the economy.
Uwa said the system aimed at bringing developmental and economic growth in the country through the use of data collection of people and other relevant information.
“The data received will be used to plan for the management of the nation’s resources,” he said.
NAN reports that the project was initiated by the former President Olusegun Obasanjo administration, while the Goodluck Jonathan’s administration inaugurated a Technical Committee for its implementation.
According to Uwa, since BRISIN covers all aspect of the economy, the recruitment is not restricted to a particular field or discipline.
He however, said the implementation would commence with the social welfare, an aspect of the project, with special attention to disability data bank.
He said: “We are giving attention to social welfare and building the disability data bank to attain the actual number of disabled people in the FCT.
“We are recruiting 5,000 people out of which 200 will be sent to Italy for training on various aspect of the project and they will be the trainees’ trainers.
“They will be trained mainly on the use of data on every aspect of economic management with attention to health, education, economic monitoring, fiscal and revenue control, migration and human trafficking.
“BRISIN recruitment cuts across all cadres, from school certificate to PHD holders so the recruitment is not restricted.
“The recruitment will be published on e-transact by next week, the portal will be opened for about six weeks and the public will be sensitised on how to access and fill the form through the portal.
“Also, the 5000 people we are recruiting does not mark the end of BRISIN recruitment but just a pilot phase, as we start from FCT we will train those to work in other states.”
On the funding, Uwa said a budget had already been allocated to the project, but because it was small, a BRISIN international Foundation was established to help source fund to supplement government effort.
He said: “The budget is small so we have to look for donors from well-meaning Nigerians, corporate organisations and international donors so we do not depend on government funds alone.
“With this foundation, we want to see those claiming to love Nigeria come and donate generously to the implementation.
“When this is fully implemented, it will reduce the risk of Nigerians that engage on illegal migration, so this foundation is as important as BRISIN itself.”
Uwa urged Nigerians not to consider the move as a political affair being that it was an election year, but see it as a dream come true for Nigeria to attain the height it ought to have regarding job availability.
According to him, considering the economic monitoring, a lot of people will be involved, so it will create jobs and also a multiplying effect of job creation in the nation.

By | BRISIN News | No Comments

Abuja   –     The Managing Director, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr Bayo Onanuga, has expressed the agency’s commitment to support the implementation of the Basic Registry and Information System in Nigeria (BRISIN).

Onanuga made the pledge when the Head of BRISIN implementation in Nigeria, Dr Anthony Uwa led a delegation to visit him on Tuesday in Abuja.

Onanuga, represented by the Editor-in-Chief of NAN, Mr Idris Abdulrahman, said NAN had the spread required to disseminate all information by BRISIN to the World.

He said:“We have presence virtually in all the states of the federation, with district offices in some local government areas and zonal offices that oversee the various states under them.

“We have some foreign offices with one very functional in New York; we have more than 500 reporters across the federation. Our reach is very wide.

“I know the essence of your coming here is to get publicity and that we are ready to give you.

“At any material time and anywhere you have a function on BRISIN, call on us and we will be there to assist you; we are ready to serve you because that is our basic function.

In his remark, the Head of BRISIN implementation, commended NAN for the work the agency had been doing in disseminating accurate information to the World.

Uwa called for more collaboration of the agency to BRISIN implementation in the country, saying that,“ NAN should be number one in our information distribution, they should carry others along.’’

“We consider NAN as key to everything we are going to do, and we thank you for the effort you have made so far as most of the information given out on BRISIN was sent through NAN.

“Also, the foreign media that are publicising information on BRISIN got their information through NAN and that means a lot to us.

“We believe that we are going to work together to make that difference which this country actually needs to move forward.

NAN reports that BRISIN is an integrated system for the collection, storage and distribution of information to support the management of the economy.

Uwa said the system aimed at bringing developmental and economic growth in the country through the use of data collection of people and other relevant information.

“The data received will be used to plan for the management of the nation’s resources,’’ he said.

NAN reports that the project was initiated by the ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, while the Goodluck Jonathan’s administration inaugurated a Technical Committee for its implementation.

BRISIN project will create 10m jobs for Nigerians

By | BRISIN News | 18 Comments

Dr Anthony Uwa, National Coordinator, Basic Registry and Information System in Nigeria (BRISIN), says the project will create no fewer than 10 million jobs if implemented by the present administration.

Uwa, also Managing Director of Dermo Impex Limited, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration would make history with the project.

He said that criticisms of the administration would turn to praises because it would build a lasting foundation for the country to thrive if the project is implemented.

BRISIN is an integrated system for the collection, storage and distribution of information to support the management of the economy.

The project was initiated under the President Olusegun Obasanjo administration while the Goodluck Jonathan administration inaugurated a Technical Committee for its implementation.

BRISIN is targeted at tapping into all aspects of the nation’s economy and bringing about developmental and economic growth in the country through the use of data collection of people and information.

Data received will be used to plan for the management of the nation’s resources.

It is also expected to bring solutions to other aspects of the economy such as tackling insecurity, unemployment, corruption, fiscal and revenue management, social welfare services to the citizens and good governance.

Uwa, however, commended the Federal Government for moving BRISIN from the Ministry of Budget and National Planning to the Presidency to ensure its speedy implementation.

“We found out that operating system of every nation is under Presidency and the power lies in the Ministry of Interior.

“In America, they call it Home Land Security; they are the ones that give social security number; in Italy it is so and in other developed countries.

“In Nigeria, if we have to get it right, it has to be under Presidency and there must be governing Board for BRISIN.

“The board needs to be under BRISIN Governing Board of Data Governance in Nigeria; such governing board becomes a supervising board to monitor the use of data by every agency.

“We have come a long way from quoting wrong data; Nigerians will have a clear picture of their being; what they do, what they have and their economy, then they become a country.’’

The Coordinator said talks had been going on about restructuring, adding that the process, the system and even the resources should be clearly defined.

Uwa said Nigeria had witnessed various insurgencies, criminal groups, and agitations including but not limited to the call for restructuring the country over the years.

“The issue is not whether the country would be restructured or not but laying a credible foundation that would lead to correct and equitable restructuring.

“A correct foundation must be laid so that clear picture of our being and equity is established before restructuring.

“On this note, the introduction of, for the first time, an operational system called BRISIN will help the country to achieve that.

“An all-encompassing national integrated data and information infrastructure that will power the data governance in Nigeria should be our guide towards restructuring.

“Issues like terrorism, kidnapping, criminality, corruption, unemployment, fiscal insincerity, problem of economic monitoring, etc at all levels are vices difficult to tackle without data governance,’’ he said.

According to him, 10 million jobs will be little if all the objectives already programmed in the execution of BRISIN in Nigeria by this administration are considered.

Uwa also commended the present administration for giving meaning to social welfare.

“It is assumed we have close to 20 million disabled persons in a country of 180 million; this is 13 per cent of the total population.

“ Though, like all the speculated data and information in Nigeria, the number above need to be verified, but the question is how?

“We hear that Nigerians in the Diaspora remits 23 billion dollars every year, what social or economic impact does such amount of money has in Nigeria?

“Who are these generous citizens, are they part of our democratic considerations? How do we include them?

“No good economy or government succeed in a speculated system so let it be clear of what must be done; we must support government in building the system (BRISIN) for data governance,’’ he said.

BRISIN Debuts in Abuja

By | BRISIN News | 14 Comments

Dr Anthony Uwa, Head of Implementation, Basic Registry and Information System in Nigeria (BRISIN), says the Federal Government is committed to the implementation of the project as it commences the pilot project in FCT.

Uwa said in Abuja that the Federal Government and the service provider of BRISIN, Dermo Impex, had carried out awareness campaigns on the project.

BRISIN is an integrated system for the collection, storage and distribution of information to support the management of the economy.

The Federal Government had approved the implementation of the project which would be carried out by Dermo Impex, an Italian based Information and Communication Technology Company.

He said that BRISIN had started with sensitisation and workshop on disability.

“The second leg of the project is the official flag off. At the official flag off, the field work will start, that is the really implementation.

“All the necessary logistic needs to be prepared before the flag off, that it why we have met with stakeholders to make sure that BRISIN is implemented.

“It the responsibility of the FCT to provide funding, then, they are going to provide provisional office for the flag off and implementation before BRISIN centres are built.

“The Federal Government has asked us to look at the possibility of seeking funds from Nigeria citizens and international organisations, mostly because of this aspect that has to do with the disability.

“Disability is not an area that investors will put their money, they need a lot of donors and sympathetic help that comes,’’ the coordinator said.

Uwa, however, told NAN that the implementation team would mobilise resources to start the project, using few investors who are ready to support the project.

According to him, BRISIN is a programme that will take over 10 to 15 years across the country.

“BRISIN will be inaugurated in FCT soon; by the end of year, we would have competed the implementation mostly the structure and building, if funds are readily available.

“We have held two strategic meetings; we will be working with three major agencies – National Population Commission, Federal Inland Revenue Service and National Bureau of Statistics first.

“All the milestone needs to be determined by these people, real data on demographic and with the provision of security number.

“ So, that is the reason we needed these agencies to be part and parcel of the implementation even with disability data bank.

“I am assuring you that immediately we start, we will not stop. FCT could take six months, if actually fully funded so we should get the FCT pilot project right.’’

In addition, he said that the two meetings held in May with the stakeholders were to re-strategised on the implementation as agreed by the Federal Government.

“Federal Government said that FCT should provide the structures, mostly operational office for flag off – where BRISIN will take off with disability data capture.

“Then, it will also provide land for BRISIN centres from the wards to council areas and to the states.

“The second meeting took place and the result of the meeting was so impressing, it showed that it was time for us to move forward,’’ the official said.

No fewer than 9,822 servers will be installed in all the wards, local governments and states in the country as part of the project implementation.

The service provider will install one server in each of the 8,812 wards in Nigeria and move up to the 774 local governments headquarters.

BRISIN was initiated by the President Olusegun Obasanjo administration, while the Goodluck Jonathan’s administration inaugurated a Technical Committee for its implementation.
