REGRETING THE DELAY ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF BRISIN AND RECOUNTING VARIOUS CRIMINAL KILLINGS WITH NO IDENTIFICATION OF THE CUPRITS, BRISIN TEAM INSIST THAT NIGERIANS MUST ACT NOW TO END THESE NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL EMBARRASSMENTS
BRISIN (Basic Registry and Information System in Nigeria) A Call to Action for a United, Secure, and Credible Nigeria
The Team draws the attention of all Nigerians to the urgent need for a centralized data and information infrastructure a fundamental and foundational tool for national progress, security, and dignity on the global stage. The absence of such a system has led to severe consequences across all sectors of our society. The time to act is now.
1. SECURITY CHALLENGES
The continuous loss of lives in Benue, Plateau, Niger, Borno, Gombe, Enugu and other states due to unidentified assailants is unacceptable.
Who are these unknown gunmen and Kidnappers?
Where do they hide? Are they not from homes, communities, villages, wards, states or are they infiltrated without detection?
Without proper data systems, criminals move freely and remain anonymous. We must ask ourselves: why can’t we trace them?
2. DOCUMENTATION AND LEGAL IDENTITY CRISIS
Rampant falsification of documentation due to lack of verification systems.
Forgery thrives because there’s no infrastructure for real time confirmation.
Vital events like births, deaths, and marriages often go unregistered, leading to health, legal, and administrative crises including ghost workers.
Identity Cards, passports, and NIN are sometimes issued to non-Nigerians without proper checks.
3. INTERNATIONAL EMBARRASSMENT
Our citizens are frequently delayed or rejected at immigration checkpoints due to inconsistent documentation.
Foreign authorities often question the credibility of Nigerian records.
Our natural resources are stolen without trace, due to lack of data-based monitoring systems.
4. ECONOMIC LEAKAGES AND STALLED DEVELOPMENT
Billions lost to fraud, non monitored businesses, and informal economic activities.
No reliable data to support vat, tax and revenue collections, job creation, or policy planning.
Inability to properly monitor and harness Nigeria’s vast economic potential.
5. BROKEN GOVERNANCE
Disjointed planning due to the absence of credible, unified data.
Government programme often fail not because they are not poorly designed but because they lack data-driven execution.
Nigeria continues to face ridicule both locally and globally due to this structural failure.
WHY MUST BRISIN BE IMPLEMENTED?
BRISIN, approved since 2007, was designed to solve all these problems. Eighteen years later, nothing has changed, the worse is that the situation has deteriorated. The excuse given for delay is There’s no money.
Do you believe that? Or do you believe it’s time for the people to act?
